What is it?
A unique thermal pillow, a pure cotton pouch filled with over 1.5 litres of cherry stones - the natural by-product from the manufacture of jams and kirsch liqueur. Traditionally, the Swiss distilliery workers would place small bags of cherry stones on the factory stoves to use at the end of the day on their stif f shoulders - and probably to keep their hands warm on the way home too!
What is it good for?
Lots of things… from just warming the bed to treating sports injuries…its used as a pre heater prior to massage and as an excellent cuddly comforter on cold and lonely nights...
How do you heat it?
Just three minutes in a microwave gives a long lasting penetrating heat that quickly eases any point of discomfort - neck tension, backache, headache, period pains - it’ s just like a hot water bottle but without the dangers of boiling water, which makes it ideal both for children and the elderly...
Do you have to have a Microwave?
No, just put the pillow in a heatproof dish and place it in a conventional oven for 15minutes at 150 C...
Can you Freeze it?
YES..just wrap the pillow in a plastic bag to keep it dry and place it in the freezer to turn it into a perfect cold compress for sports injuries, bumps, sprains and puffy eyes.
What about Aromatherapy oils
Although the OPAL LONDON Cherry stone pillow has it’s own lovely comforting mild ‘biscuity’ smell, particularily when new, it is perfect for aromatherapists to fragrance too - a few drops of lavender for relaxation or a few drops of eucalyptus to ease a headcold - you can fragrance it directly onto the pouch any way you choose.
Any other unique features?
IT’S WASHABLE..! This is where the OPAL LONDON Cherry stone pillow REALLY SCORES over any other natural fill hot pack. Other products are filled with wheat, rice, flax or lavender and therefore not washable! Just place the Cherry stone pillow inside a pillowcase (just for added safety) and wash at 30 C., then dry in the tumbledrier. Have a lavender pillow one day then wash the fragrance out and try eucalyptus the next !
IT’S DUST FREE..! All the other natural fill pillows emit quite high dust levels, the more they are used the more the fill breaks down and the small dust particles become airborne, irritating sinus sufferers and others with allergies. NOT SO with OPAL LONDON Cherry stone pillows as the stones are very robust and do not degrade, hence NO DUST. Properly cared for a Cherry stone pillow will last a lifetime. (over)
Any other care instructions?
Spritz the pillow with water from time to time to ensure it doesn’t get too dry, it gives out more heat when it’s slightly damp and the cherry stones won’t crack up.
Don’t overheat it or it will burn just like anything else that you put into a microwave oven. For safety sake to ensure it doesn’t get overheated, always allow it to return to room temperature before reheating for 3 minutes - and make sure that with the OPAL LONDON Cherry Bear only his pouch gets put in the microwave (1.5mins only) - he really hates going into the microwave himself!
